It doesn't hurt much at the time but it can leave the muscle very sore for a few days after, so it is better to take it in the buttock because it is easier to cope with a sore bottom than a sore arm.
A penicillin shot typically begins to work within a few hours, but the full effects may take a day or more to become apparent, depending on the infection being treated. It is normal for the injection site to be sore, swollen, or even slightly bruised for a few days after the shot. If the pain or swelling persists or worsens, it's advisable to consult a healthcare professional.
A sore butt from a steroid injection may be caused by tissue irritation or inflammation at the injection site, which can result from the needle puncturing the skin and underlying tissues. The steroid itself can also lead to localized reactions, such as swelling or tenderness. Additionally, the volume of the injected medication and the technique used can influence discomfort. Post-injection soreness is typically mild and resolves on its own within a few days.
