a jellyfish is a cnidarian and closer related to coral and sea anemones however they are similar.

A sponge lacks a nervous system, Cells in each layer are not bound together, has many cells in the middle "jelly" layer, and -likely their most distinguishing feature- the Cells in a sponge's outer layers can move inwards and change functions.
