It depends on the species. Most parrots are herbivores, feeding on vegetation, grains, seeds, nuts, fruits and nectar. However, a few species, such as the kakapo of New Zealand, are omnivores, because they will also eat insects and even small reptiles. The kea, another New Zealand species, has been known to attack sheep as well as the chicks of other birds.
