One of the smaller venomous species is the European Adder (Vipera berus). It rarely exceeds 35 inches (90 centimetres). Its venom is fairly weak - and fatalities from bites are rare.
Young rattlesnakes have the same venom as adults. However, they have not developed the ability to control the amount of venom they inject and are prone to injecting all the venom they have in a single bite. Adults frequently will give a dry bite when they defend themselves as they try to conserve the venom for obtaining food.
Arizona Coral Snake (Micruroides euryxanthus) is a small venomous snake and adults only reach 13-21 inches in length. The ridge-nosed rattlesnake (Crotalus willardi) is small and rarely reaches 2 feet in length as an adult. The pygmy rattlesnake (Sistrurus miliarius) as adults grow to between 14.0 and 29.9 inches in total length.
The European Adder (Vipera berus) is a small venomous (to use the correct term) species rarely exceeding 36 inches (90cm) in length.
