A surgeon is a physician who has completed allopathic medical school or osteopathic school and received either an M.D. or D.O. professional medical degree respectively. After medical school to become a surgeon one must also complete residency training at a hospital in a surgical residency program. Allied health professions include all medical professions other than medicine, nursing and pharmacy such as physical therapy, paramedic, surgical technicians etc.. that make up the various professions involved in healthcare.
