No. The alto horn mouthpiece is a little larger.
No. It may be possible to force an alto mouthpiece on a tenor neck or to seal a tenor mouthpiece on an alto neck, but the sax won't play properly in tune with the wrong size mouthpiece.
If you take the round metal piece off the top of the mouth piece by loosening the screws, and place the reed next to the mouth piece so the flat side is next to the mouth piece. Then, line up the curved top of the reed with the curved top of the saxophone, so you can only see a tiny bit of the mouthpiece. Put on the round metal piece again and tighten it using the screws. There you have it!!
Body: the main bit. Neck: the bit you put in the top of the body and attach the mouthpiece to. Mouthpiece: the bit you put on the neck and blow into to make sound. Reed: a piece of wood on the mouthpiece that vibrates when you blow to make sound. Ligature: a piece of metal that hold the reed on the mouthpiece.
It sounds the same, you just need to push in the mouthpiece into the neck. Just like saying, what would happen if you played a tenor saxophone with an alto saxophone mouthpiece. I have played a tenor before with my alto sax mouthpiece. What I meant to say was to push the mouthpiece in more than you would on the alto saxophone neck. The first time I answered I didn't sign in.

The different types of alto instruments include the alto saxophone, alto clarinet, and alto flute. These instruments differ in their size, shape, and the way they produce sound. The alto saxophone is a brass instrument with a single reed mouthpiece, the alto clarinet is a woodwind instrument with a cylindrical bore and a single reed mouthpiece, and the alto flute is a woodwind instrument with a curved headjoint and a larger size than the standard flute. Each instrument has its own unique sound and playing technique.
Pull the mouthpiece off of the neck a little bit.
