Whales are not fish but are actually mammals; they do not have gills and, therefore, must come out of the water to breath, and they feed their young with mammary glands.

So, like almost all mammals, whales are warm blooded, meaning they maintain a constant body temperature rather than taking on the temperature of their surroundings.

Fish, on the other hand, are cold blooded.
