Yes. Affirmative Action allows individuals who would normally be underprivileged the access to the institutions that would fundamentally change their economic situation and break cycles of poverty. However, in my view, Affirmative Action should be economic-based, not race/ethnicity based.

Affirmative action, implimented as a result of the Civil Rights movement, is still in effect at most major universities. Although, there have been numerous institutions that have abolished affirmative action.

There is no AA statute, only court rulings. Courts allow AA in college admissions, but prohibit AA in violation of the race-blind mandate of Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
