Yes. Hollywood Video and Movie Gallery are closing hundreds of locations nationwide and there is a very good chance that by the end of 2009 or in early 2010 they will go into complete liquidation. They have fallen behind rent in most if not all locations by at least several months. This has been reported at http://www.videobusiness.com/article/CA6704474.HTML. They have been doing overnight closes in those locations so the landlords cannot lock them out. I am a former manager of 10 years and was recently let go in one of these cases. Just type Hollywood Video closing or Movie Gallery closing in a search link on Google or yahoo and you will find multiple examples of the above. If you are a landlord - check your bank statements to see if you are getting paid. You may want to lock them out before they do a dine and dash. If you are a current employee - you may want to seek other employment pronto. If you want to read or vent about this goto the link above - a very good chat has started there that I'm sure Sherif Matyas the CEO of Movie Gallery would be very upset about. Finally - well all this closing is going on - he has been telling the employees that only the bottom 10% of the company will close - which is just not the truth. All the while he is living like a rock star - flying to New York City for the WORLD SERIES! Im serious here. He also flew to the WORLD PREMIERE OF Twilight 2 - New Moon in LA. As employees are losing jobs left and right. Sorry to vent but in the end the answer to this question is a definitive YES.
