Yes,horses are very much affected by an electric shock. My friend boards horses. He has boarded horses for years. There is an electric fence all around the pasture and believe me, when a horse bumps up against the electric fence and gets shocked, they react very quickly to the electricity. They avoid the fence completely after getting shocked a few times.

∙ 12y agoIf you use the wireless dog fence correctly and follow the instructions the fence can be an affective tool. The wireless dog fence has different settings on strength of shock and can be harmful to a dog if used incorrectly.

∙ 11y agoThe electric dog fence is meant as a negative reinforcement to guide a dog away from certain boundaries. Although it does inflict pain, it is not meant to harm it more than its mother would nipping it away from a certain area. However, it is still meant as a negative reinforcement and is not meant to create a pleasant feeling for the dog. If a dog continues to walk into the electrical current and does not seem to understand the boundaries that it is creating, it might not be the ideal form of training for your dog.

∙ 13y agoIt is possible for a bird to be shocked if landing on an electric fence but not likley. Since the bird is not standing on the ground and touching the fence the elctricity has no where to go so the bird should be fine. Other animals get shocked because they are touching the fence and another objecy such as the ground. As long as the bird is touching only the fence, the electricity has no where to go.
