The word 'appears' is singular.

Ex: Ethan and Lucy appear to be wearing the same colored shirt. <--- In this sentence, Ethan and Lucy are two people making it plural, however there is no 's' at the end of 'appears'. Add an 's' when what you are talking about is singular. (That is a general rule, there are some exceptions.)
