Yes and No. To answer the question, one must fully understand what Arthritis is. at the ends of long bones, such as the arm and leg bones, there is a layer of smooth, springy cartilage called articular cartilage, where two bones meet and move against each other. this is in all joints between long bones. arthritis describes the condition in which this cartilage is gone, and bones are rubbing against each other, causing pain and swelling. There are several different types of arthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, and osteoarthritis. osteoarthritis is caused by normal wear and tear of your articular cartilage scraping against the articular cartilage of opposing bones when you do anything from walking to jumping rope to riding a bike; this also means that more active people can be more prone to this condition. a person who spends their life running is much more likely to suffer osteoarthritis in their knees and hips than someone who doesn't. there is evidence to suggest that there is somewhat of a hereditary component to osteoarthritis, because how much cartilage develops in the joints during growth can be the difference between getting osteoarthritis, and not.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a completely different thing. It is an autoimmune disorder, which means it is caused by a hereditary mutation in which the body's immune system mistakes the cartilage of major joints (knees, elbows, etc.) for pathogens, and destroys it, causing the same symptoms of osteoarthritis, because when the cartilage is destroyed, it leaves bone to rub against bone, destroying more of the cartilage.

Arthritis is a word that is used to refer to more than 100 different diseases and conditions that can cause pain, stiffness, swelling, decreased range of motion, and permanent joint damage. Every type of arthritis is different, but most forms of arthritis are not hereditary. This means that, generally speaking, arthritis is not passed directly from parents to children. However, there is some scientific evidence to suggest that certain types of arthritis may have a genetic component. This means that scientists think there may be a gene or genes that make certain people more likely to develop certain forms of arthritis than other people. For example, when it comes to rheumatoid arthritis (RA), researchers have shown in the past few years that people with a specific genetic marker called the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) shared epitope have a fivefold greater probability of developing rheumatoid arthritis than people who do not have the marker. Several other genes have been identified that also appear to have a connection to being diagnosed with RA. However, having one of these genes does not mean that a person would necessarily develop RA, and not all people with RA have these genes. So it may be possible to identify a genetic marker that makes a person more likely to develop RA, that is not the same as arthritis being hereditary. Researchers are investigating other factors that may play a role, such as environmental factors. Additionally, arthritis is a very common disease. In fact, it is the leading cause of disability in the United States. The Arthritis Foundation estimates that arthritis affects one in five Americans, which means that the odds are quite high that more than one person in a family could be affected.

Arthritis is not a hereditary disease, except in the sense that all human beings have some genetic predisposition to eventually develop it. Arthritis is classified as a degenerative disease.
