A long time ago......
The first disk the computer was programmed to access was the Floppy Drive a 5 1/4 or a 3 1/2
single platter floppy disk. This historically was the first boot since the operating system was needed. This was before Hard disks and way before CDROM or DVDROM.
Since the first disk to be accessed was given the label A and was the floppy drive the Hard Disk was given the label B.
Both letters are for Hard Disk drive because one hard disc is compartmentalized and these are named C drive, D drive & E Drive etc.
Hard Disk Drive.
Drive A or Drive B as the hard disk was usually Drive C
It is also known as Hard Drive, Disk Drive, Or Hard Disk Drive.
a hard drive is called "disque dur" in French.
* Hard disk drive * Hard drive * HDD
A: or B: drive is usually a floppy disk. These are becoming rare. C: drive is usually the main hard disk. D: drive is the second hard disk if any. E: drive is usually an optical or CD or DVD drive F: G: H: etc. drive may be a USB "thumbdrive" or an external disk.
a hard drive is built into the computer whereas a hard disk is seperate
Hard disk drive.
Normally the second removable drive, A = first removable or floppy drive, if a second floppy drive is installed it is drive B. First hard disk is Drive C, second Hard disk is Drive D, etc. You can also map the drive letters to the virtual network connections, so that Drive P could be used as a network connection.
The hard disk drive platter is used to store magnetic data or information that comes from the hard disk drive, where they are stored. The hard disk drive can contain one or more hard disk platter.
"Festplattenlaufwerk" is a German equivalent of "hard disk drive" of computers.
