I f you are talking about Baptism, the sacrament, that is a proper noun. If you are talking about baptism, the first time you do something, that is a common noun.

example: The Baptism of John's son will be on Sunday. The game on Friday will be a baptism for our new coach.

Proper nouns are nouns representing unique entities (such as London, Jupiter, or Toyota).

Proper nouns are not normally preceded by an article or other limiting modifier (such as any or some), and are used to denote a particular person, place, or thing.

Proper nouns begin with a capital letter.

I think baptism is not a proper noun.

Baptism is a common noun. If a common noun is part of a name, it becomes a proper noun. Proper nouns are the unique names of people, places, or things. Common nouns are the words for general things. Pronouns can usually replace proper and common nouns.
