Blood pressure of 140/73 might not require medication, but it does require some attention. Some simple lifestyle alterations, such as a minor change to your diet, or slightly adjusting your exercise routine could be all you need. Run "high blood pressure" through your favourite search engine. You'll come up with plenty of information. Check your blood pressure regularly at one of those machines you often see in drug stores, and have your doctor check it a few times a year as well.

∙ 15y agoThe average blood pressure is about 130 over 85, so your score is a touch on the elevated side, but nothing to fret about. It may be that you are stressed or have done some vigorous exercise. If you do still have jittters, consult your GP for advice.

∙ 14y agoFirst, blood pressure is recorded as systolic pressure (pressure of blood per contraction leaving left ventricle into arteries) over diastolic pressure (pressure of blood in arteries in between heart beats). systolic/diastolic. (systole/diastole)
Blood pressure of a healthy person is for systolic pressure to be between 100-140 and diastolic pressure between 65-80.
However, some factors can influence blood pressure:
- age (blood pressure can increases with age due to inactivity, being overweight or blood vessel deterioration)
- exercise (increases systolic pressure)
- excitement and stress (causes both systolic and diastolic to increase)
A systolic pressure in between 100-140 is okay, but a diastolic pressure of over 90 is considered abnormal, as is a systolic pressure over 160.
Taking into account the factors above, if you constantly get a reading over 90 for diastolic, and you are worried about this, then I would recommend seeking medical advice.
