"Brine" is a solution of a salt ... usually sodium chloride ... in water. Any solution of

a salt in water may properly be referred to as 'brine'.

You can cool it and make it cold. You can heat it and make it hot. You can cool it

some more and freeze it. You can heat it some more and boil it, except that when

you do that, you wouldn't actually say that the 'brine' is boiling, because the water

is boiling and evaporating but the salt is staying where it is and making stronger brine.
