The dragon hatches and he keeps it in the forest near him. Once the dragon starts talking to him (telepathically) he names the dragon Sapphira. He becomes a dragon rider and with Brom leaves Carvahall before the evil King of the land he lives in (Alagaesia) can capture him and force him to serve him. Brom dies later on. Eragon joins the Varden and gets training from the elves who live in the north. He fights and kills the Evil King and frees Alagasia.
