As a partial agonist opioid buprenorphine does not have a linear dose response curve like full agonist opioids do, including morphine. As such there is no direct conversion ratio that can be applied to all doses. At very low doses (<0.5mgs) buprenorphine is 20-50X as potent as morphine, however at higher dose (like those used to treat opioid dependence) buprenorphine is not 20-50x as potent and near or above the ceiling dose, equal doses of morphine becomes effectively more potent. Because buprenorphine has a ceiling to its effects, at and above the ceiling dose buprenorphine's dose response curve remains flat limiting its effects, while morphine (or any other full agonist opioid) continues to increase effect until the patient succumbs to respiratory depression. 32mgs of buprenorphine is NOT equal to 1600mgs of morphine which would kill just about anyone.

Yes it is but there's a ceiling effect in bup. However, there's a growing epidemic of contaminated doses of many opiates being mixed w other drugs that make people get sick and could even cause death.

Methadone is more appropriate if you are using higher doses of opiates. Methadone is more appropriate during pregnancy. Methadone is more appropriate if you have chronic, severe pain. Buprenorphine is more appropriate if you want to eventually get off all drugs. It's easier to get off of Buprenorphine than to get off of Methadone. In the U.S., Buprenorphine can be prescribed by any physician who has been certified to prescribe it. Methadone, on the other hand, can only be prescribed (for opiate addiction) in special clinics. Thus, you can get Buprenorphine in a regular doctor's office (if the doctor is certified) rather than having to go to a special clinic. Some people prefer this, since when you go to a regular doctor's office nobody in the lobby knows you're a drug addict.

Reckktt benckiser is the make of the brand name Suboxone and Subutex. I know of 2 other companies that make buprenorphine and buprenorphine with naloxone...those companies are Teva and Roxanne pharmaceuticals. I do not know if there are other generic makers.
