Best Answer

Gas. It is put into bottles for use as camping gas, pressurised so that it becomes a liquid, but at normal pressures it is a gas, because the molecules are not very big so don't attract each other very much. Longer chain hydrocarbon molecules are liquids, eg petrol, octane C8H18.

Why is butane gas a liquid in lighter but a gas in water?

Butane gas is a liquid in lighters because it is under high pressure, which allows it to remain in a liquid state at room temperature. However, when released into water, the pressure decreases and the butane evaporates into a gas due to its low boiling point.

What is the chemical symbol for butane?

Butane is a component of LPG Liquefied Petroleum Gas. Butane is a hydrocarbon that is present natural gas and can be obtained when petroleum is refined. Butane is a gaseous alkane. Why does the liquid in a butane lighter become gas after being released?

When the liquid butane in a lighter is released, it is exposed to lower pressure and higher temperature in the surrounding environment. This causes the liquid to evaporate and turn into a gas. The gas form of butane is what is ignited to create a flame when using a lighter.

How do you turn butane gas into liquid?

Butane gas can be turned into liquid by increasing the pressure and decreasing the temperature. This can be done in a closed container where the butane gas is compressed and cooled until it reaches its liquid state.
