This question is usually asked in relation to China owning a percentage of our debt. This does not imply that China "owns" America, rather, it implies that China has a vested interested in America. China would not invest in America if they didn't think that they would benefit from it. I'm sure, and others could clarify on this, that China greatly depends on us being a major consumer of their exports. If it were to be the case that America would default on the loans (America simply cannot pay anymore, like what is going on with Greece), then this would impact America in its ability to be involved in the world market and drastically change Americas economy, but doesn't mean that suddently China can take our cars, buildings, and government.
Yes, part of it. Not sure the percentage, but they do. And Saudi Arabia too. So, is Bank of America 75% American owned or is the majortiy owned by China?
