No, antibiotics unfortunately dont help with bronchitis, but because having bronchitis increases your chance for getting lung infections antibiotics would be used to treat the lung infection and not bronchitis. To treat the bronchitis you'd need a bronchodialator i.e proventil or steroids ie prednisone, atrovent etc.

i was recently sent to the emergency room at the hospital for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease exacerbation. i was prescribed leviquin which i could not afford so they replaced it with ciprofloxacin hcl 500 mg tabs which was substituted for cipro 500 mg tabs. i tried to look up this medication for my condition but cannot find any uses for it except for urinary tract infections or tendon damage after surgery. can anybody tell me if they have ever had this medication prescribed to them for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or bronchitis or Asthma
