Coal is a mineral. It is good but the way humans are using it is bad.

Coal stores carbon underground, keeping it away from the atmosphere and the greenhouse effect. When we dig the coal up and burn it, all the carbon is released as carbon dioxide. This extra greenhouse gas is helping to cause global warming.
