Coffee is a food, ‌because it is a nourishing grain at some extent, although it is not listed as an essential food, but contains important nutrients, such as protein, minerals, vitamins, in small quantities. But since we cannot drink coffee (after having it roasted and processed) in large amounts, the term "food" is secondary when interpreted as something that could maintain your life for long periods when is lacking solid foods like rice, beans, pasta and so on.. Coffee as a beverage, is used mainly as a Central Nervous System stimulant due to caffeine contained in it.
