All fruits and vegetables, including Chinese cabbage, can be eaten when someone is on a low-purine diet (purines metabolize into uric acid). The vegetables that should be limited include spinach, mushrooms, asparagus, green peas and cauliflower. Cabbage has between 22 and 32 mg. uric acid/100 g.

Leafy vegetables are advised to be avoided if one has higher than normal levels of uric acid, since they contain high content of Purines which get converted into uric acid in the body. Cabbage has lesser content of Purines than other leafy vegetables and hence is fine in moderation.

However, if you are juicing, you might find yourself consuming the entire cabbage in a glass of juice. Under normal circumstances, you will be consuming a fraction of a cabbage and our chewing action does not extract all the juices. However, with juicing, the extraction is 70% or more. So you might be consuming a much greater amount of purine when you are juicing.
