No, colitis is an inflammation in the large intestine and proctitis is an infection in the actual rectum. Basically, colitis is inflammation up higher and proctitis is inflammation down lower.

No. Colitis is inflammation of the colon (often used to describe inflammation of the whole large intestine - colon, rectum, and cecum), which can be caused by a variety of things - for example, Crohn's disease, infection or chemicals from an enema.

Whereas Ulcerative colitis is a form of colitis, characterized by ulcers in the colon. However, people who suffer from ulcerative colitis may just say "colitis" - although more commonly it is abbreviated to UC. There is no such treatment for this. It can be cured by yoga, meditation, diet control and by keeping your mind cool and tension free and by reading Healing inspirational poetry from brendenpettingill.com and some other. Thanks.

No, they are of the same family of diseases collectively known as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Colitis is more localized in nature than Crohn's disease. Colitis affects the colon (large bowel) including the rectum and anus, and only invades the inner lining of bowel tissue. It almost always starts at the rectum, extending upwards in a continuous manner through the colon.

Crohn's disease can strike anywhere in the gastrointestinal tract, from mouth to anus, Crohns is usually located in the lower part of the small bowel and the upper end of the colon. Areas of inflammation are interspersed between healthy portions of the bowel, and can penetrate the intestinal layers from the inner to outer lining.
