Conch itself is not poisonous, its is the improper preparation and storage along with bacteria that causes conch to become poisonous. The disease causing organism has been identified as Vibrio parahaemolyticus, a salt water gram- negative bacterium naturally and commonly found in warm marine and estuarine environments. In the States, infection is commonly caused by eating raw Oysters.
