normally no. from the time of birth on it is the stimulus for growth,

however in old age you can have failure even at rest

or you can have severe failure ... both can lead to death, quite rapidly.

Heart disease is not always fatal. With proper medication,diet and exercise a patient can lead a normal life. Also, new procedures and meds can help these patients lead a longer healthier life.

Unfortunately, from everything I've read it is progressive, and while medication can slow the progress and help keep it under some sort of control, it is eventually fatal.
