Yes not only is it cheaper but is a lot easier. Think about it this way if you intially network 2 computers will you have to run cables back and forth of the two. Lets say in the future you want to add a third computer, then you would have to run cables from the third computer to the first and second.

Firstly lets look at this step by step. Say you have 7 computers you need networked. Its rare to find to a computer that comes with built in wireless capabilities. So we have to fix that. We need wireless adapters. Go to Amazon and we see Linksys wireless PCI cards for $55.00 Multiply that by 7 and your looking $385.00 just to get the computers network ready. Next you need a wireless router. Again a Linksys one via amazon costs $70.00

That means just to get all the hardware for a wirless network it will cost $455.00

Now consider this, there is more downtime with a wireless network then with a wired network. So whats your techies hourly rate and how much productivity do you loose for every hour of down time?

The security is alot more slack so better hope your not doing anything too confidential and unless you want to spend another $120 on a range expander your computers all have to be in close range of the router. Oh and wireless is slower than wired.

So what about a wired network? Its rare to find a computer that's not ethernet ready. So all we really need is a switch, again Amazon $22.00 Next a bit of cabling. Its hard to price cabling its really depends on network engineer you get, my advice - shop around. The company I used to work for charge E100.00 for the initial fee and then E10 for every computer there-after. So that would be E192.00 and the job (well for 7 computers anyway) should be finished within an hour - unless of course the wires had to go through attic's or concrete walls or something.
