A1. Corn dies when the temperature reaches 0 degrees Celsius, and grows best at 30 degrees Celsius or above, so it is a summer vegetable in the temperate zone.

A2. In temperate climates, corn (usually wheat) may be sown in autumn and lie essentially fallow till spring. This is known as winter corn. Not successful where winter ground temperature drops much below 0oC, or is likely to become waterlogged or snow covered.
