Not necessarily. Crude oil is the oil that comes from the reservoir. Usually there is some processing to remove water and gas from the oil before it is put in storage tanks. Heavy oil is generally black in color, but some of the lighter crudes can be the color of motor oil. Gas condensate (liquids coming from a rich gas) can be clear and be close to gasoline.
