To be honest its stereotypes. Ever genre of music has it way of expressing so with rap it might be the so called 'bad language'and metal screaming or louder chords etc. But whoever said metal counts as a bad type of music hasn't found respect for music yet.

Disadvantages meaning what, exactly? It tends to be less "accessible" to those not familiarised with it already, which may be considered either an advantage, or a disadvantage, your personal perspective dependent. The term "Death Metal" has become bastardised by all these watered down so-called "melodeath" and "deathcore" bands. I suppose that would be a disadvantage to some extent. The disadvantages to one specific genre really hold true to all. You have to have some genuine orientation towards that style of music to really be able to play or appreciate it. If it's not your thing, it'll be very disadvantageous to you, just as a diehard Death Metal fan would probably find Hip Hop to a disadvantage.

i had a grunge before the flood. i really liked it. death metal is the same as grunge only a little heavier and you cant control the amount of distortion so its all or nothing. bad monkey is more for blues, unles you put it through a grunge or death metal as well, then you have the purest metal sound around.
