Yes he is going to die - he dies presumably of a heart attack on Christmas Day after having a bust up with Max. Jack, Joey and Max throw him out of the house and he stumbles onto the street. After threatening them saying that they will regret this he grabs his arm clearly in pain and the others fed up of Derek do nothing. Derek then keels over and then he lies still. The others come over and then Max announces that he is dead.
