Mature Christians are to allow the Holy Spirit to control their life. We are told to "walk in the Spirit" in Romans, to overcome our natural iniclination to sin. If we are guided and empowered by the Spirit, we will be walking in the same manner as Christ did. We will have discernment to choose our battles and also know when to speak or act and when not to. Our umpire will be peace of heart. Disengagement is not an option for a serious Christian, unless the Spirit is guiding one in that direction. Even then, it is not a disengagement with God--though perhaps, at times, with man.
