Downshifting a motorcycle isn't necessary in order to stop, but it is a good habit. The best thing to do is pull in the clutch and apply both brakes to gradually slow down. While doing that, shift into first gear. This allows you to make evasive maneuvers if necessary when you are at a stop.
Also, with the clutch pulled you can upshift to the proper gear if necessary (e.g. if you are in traffic and it starts to move before you come to a complete stop).
Shifting up or down is directly related to the rpm. of the motor. It will vary with the motorcycle motor size.
down shifting is not bad at all... as long as your are downshifting properly and not trying to drop more than one gear at a time or dropping a gear, popping the clutch and redlining then, it's fine... when you're slowing down, squeeze the clutch, down shift, and slowly release the clutch... if you just let it go then yes it can be bad
1 down 3 up if newer than 1986 85 and 86 1 down and 4 up with neutral between 1st and 2nd on all models
This is normal in a sequential transmission motorcycles use. The transmission needs a source of power to move the gears in place, if you shift more than one or two gears down, you will have to disengage the clutch to continue shifting down. You should plan your stops accordingly and shift down while stopping so that you can shift to first just about when you are rolling to a stop.
You set it down.

Yes, always use your clutch for any kind of shifting
Loosen the clamp bolts on the cable. If it is shifting down to a lower gear when the throttle is at max it is all right. If it is shifting down too early, lengthen the cable adjustment. If it is shifting down too late or not at all shorten the cable adjustment.
Your front derailleur may not be shifting down properly due to issues such as cable tension, derailleur alignment, or worn out components. It is recommended to check and adjust these factors to improve shifting performance.
Your rear derailleur may not be shifting down smoothly due to issues such as cable tension, derailleur alignment, or worn out components. It is recommended to check and adjust these factors to improve shifting performance.
