Amazon and Ebay can be viewed as quite similar, although there are some important differences.

Amazon sell items directly to the consumer. On top of this, they allow "marketplace sellers" to list items for sale. The marketplace sellers sign up to provide the same level of service as Amazon and Amazon protects the buyer in the event of a problem.

Ebay is a marketplace and facilitates matching buyers and sellers. They don't sell the products themselves and they take fees for listing items as well as final-value fees based on the sale price (and a cut of the payment if it's paid through PayPal, which is owned by Ebay). Ebay don't guarantee the service of the sellers, but they do provide a mediation process for disputes.

So in summary, while there are similarities (you can go to either shop and purchase new and used items from a range of sellers) there is an important difference between Amazon's Shop style and Ebay's marketplace style.
