I am a Bears fan and it is blasphemy to not say Payton was the best, but Earl Campbell was the best. He just was. I have never seen a better running back than Campbell. In his day, nobody could stop him. You would watch the game and just be amazed at how one player could be that much better than everybody else on the field. I always dreaded when the Bears woudl play Houston, because he was unstoppable. Earl didn't need a hole - that sounds weird, but if you saw those games you knew it was true. Huge guys would hit him full speed and they would just bounce off of him. Hats off to Earl. Walter was really, really good, but it is not even a contest with Earl Campbell. He was that amazing.

I always wonder why he is not listed as the best in the lists. He may have had a bit shorter of a career and maybe wasn't the best receiver, but when he was playing he was the best.
