Carnival season precedes Ash Wednesday, which is the beginning of Lent. On Palm Sunday, sallow twigs are taken to the church to be blessed to commemorate Jesus' arrival in Jerusalem. On the night before Easter Sunday, people meet around Easter fires to sing and dance.

Brunch is served on Easter Sunday. Traditional foods served are: sweet bread ('Osterpinze'), cold meat, coloured eggs and horseradish. Children enjoy hunting eggs that are hidden in the house or garden, depending on the weather. Their Godfathers give them 'Osterlamm,' a pastry shaped in the form of a lamb.

Eggs are boiled and colored, often using small ferns and flowers to make patterns on them, for Easter.
