Water can be heated using this heat. the steam from the heated water can be used to create electricity by driving a turbine with the steam. This electricity can be used in homes in the same way other countries use electricity from coal. The difference is that coal is finite and the geothermal is not. This means that it is cheap and sustainable, and so it would be silly for Iceland not to use this.
