Not really. It's about average. It scores a 7.5-8.0 on the Mohs scale. Topaz, Alexandrite, Diamond, Sapphire Spinel, and Ruby, are all harder while Aquamarine, Beryl, Onyx and Garnet are all softer. A Zircon is about the same hardness as an Emerald.
