The noun 'feather' is a common noun, a general word for one of the flat appendages growing from a bird's skin that forming its plumage; a general word for a fringe of hair on the legs or tail of some dogs and other animals; a word for any feather of any kind.

A proper noun is the name or title of a specific person, place, or thing; for example, The Feather Islands(Fjaderholmarna) in Sweden or "Feather", a novel by Laurie Lyons.

The word 'feather' is also a verb: feather, feathers, feathering, feathered.

A proper noun is a name - either of a person or a place. Unless you have a person or place named Feather, it is going to be a common noun.
