Is fight club a religion

Hm... interesting question. It certainly has a large enough group of followers. It does have an underlying philosophy (self improvement is for the weak, self destruction is what makes life worth living) but it does not worship a god or anything of a similar nature. It couldn't be called a religion ina Marxist sense, as it was made by the middle class to be out of control. It certainly has the markings of a religion, such as the leader (like the Pope, the Dali Llama, etc), a frequent meeting in a special location (like a Mosque or a Synagogue) and an entrance ritual in the form of a chemical burn to the hand, similar to a baptism. It also has the tradition of turning away potential converts three times, similar to the Jewish faith.

I believe, therefore, that it was intended to be an organisation with the structure of a religion but the antithesis or absence of the philosophy behind one.
