Best Answer

That is a very good question...there are 7 things that can prove wheather it is a living or a non-living things (note- the object or thing does not have to have all of theese charectoristics)

-it grows

-exchange of gasses

-has cells (DNA)

-needs nutrients

-produces waste

-reproduces

-needs water

as you can see fire does not have all of theese but it does have a couple it grows when you throw wood in it, it produces waste (ash) it needs nutrient like an obvious one ( oxygen) but on the other hand it definitly DOESNT need water it doesnt really exchange in gasses, but in the end it could be proven that fire is non-living, which means it never had/was been alive.

fire is non-living, as it is not made of cells, and does not excrete waste.

non living because, like plants are living they produce oxygen not carbon dioxide...

There is an interesting philosophical exercise that s this question.

Life, all life, has several specific characteristics. You can determine if something is alive by looking at these:

  • Does it adapt to its environment, or does it adapt its environment to itself? Yes.
  • Does it consume anything to grow and develop? Yes
  • Does it produce offspring? Yes
  • Does it exist for a limited period, can it be extinguished/killed? Yes

ing "no" to anyone of these would mean it is not alive. by certain definitions, fire is alive, although not commonnly accepted as such.
