Yes, Firestar is the son of Pinestar. Pinestar was the leader of ThunderClan before giving up his leadership to become a kittypet. Firestar, originally named Rusty, was later mentored by Pinestar's son, Tigerstar, and eventually became the leader of ThunderClan.
