some religions oppose gambling and some people get to be compulsive gamblers which ruins there lives bankrupting them, but some religions do not think it is a sin and if you only play in moderation, for fun, and you accept that in the long run you will lose, then it won't kill you to put a quarter in a slot machine or to play a table game with minimal bets.

How would you resolve gambling in the Philippines?

"Resolve"? Gambling is not a problem to be resolved. It's a valid and legitimate activity. What makes gambling in the Philippines contentious is that the revenues derived from the activity goes to a presidential slush fund. That's simply wrong. All revenues from gambling should be spent on education and health ONLY. And, while on the subject of education, children should be taught why casinos never lose. They should be taught the formulas that way we can wean them off gambling within one or two generations. Gambling will then mainly be done by tourists (like Las Vegas, Singapore and Macau).

Can you claim loss earnings from lotto tickets?

In general, gambling losses can only be used as deductions to offset gambling winnings. If you report gambling income of $1000, but you had to buy $500 worth of lotto tickets to get that $1000, then you can probably deduct the full $500. If, however, you spent the same amount but only report $300 of winnings, then you could only deduct $300. If you don't report any gambling winnings, you can't deduct anything. Because the consequences of getting this wrong can be substantial, you are strongly encouraged to consult a local tax professional.

Is gambling a mala prohibita crime?

Gambling is often considered a mala prohibita crime, meaning it is deemed illegal not because it is inherently wrong, but because it violates specific laws or regulations. The legality of gambling varies widely across jurisdictions; some places permit it under certain conditions while others prohibit it entirely. This classification reflects societal norms and legal frameworks rather than moral judgment. Ultimately, whether gambling is treated as a crime depends on local laws and cultural attitudes towards the practice.
