It's an acid, hence the term stomach acid. Gastric acidis adigestive fluid, formed in the stomach. It has a pH of 1-2 and iscomposed of hydrochloric acid( HCl) (around 0.5%, or 5000 parts per million).
Cells that line the stomach produce gastric acids. The other cells found in the stomach are also the ones that produce a fluid called a bicarbonate, which is a base, to neutralize stomach acid.
