It really depends what you are looking for.
They use generic components to build their units, so for the extreme gamer it could be a bit of a hassle to deal with cheap stuff, but for the everyday user they are great.
I would say from simple word processing and web browsing to light multi media and gaming would about cover the range of Gateway brand computers.

Gateway is a computer manufacturer originally based out of South Dakota, about two years ago it was sold to Acer. Acer is now the parent company of Gateway and runs Gateway as one of it's brands, which includes Packard Bell, eMachines, and of course Acer.
