Ultimately yes because it is for the better good, as genetic diseases are a constant problem in todays society. This matter should be resolved immediately. People should be locked away. For example Down syndrome would be better aborted and should be by the mothers will or not.

On the contrary, people argue people have a right to know. However, truth is what we want not lies like god is a lie.

On the whole genetic screening is right to do.

The facts:

Genetic diseases can be researched and MAY OR MAY NOT be able to be cured by the systems which geneticists have made.

In all of the theological texts that are most prominent in today's society, The Qur'an, The Torah, and The Holy Bible say specifically that human life begins at the time of conception and that murdering another human being is unethical. Thus, according to these theological texts, those who follow the advice of such texts would consider genetic screening unethical because a few people are murdered in the process.

HOWEVER, I do not believe that my belief nor my lack of belief ought to be posted here because some people fall into Athiesm and Christianity because SOMEONE ELSE told them to.

Your choice or your lack of choice is your choice. Build a house before you furnish it.

Genetic screening definitely has its benefits, allowing you to possibly pre-determine future diseases in a child. But There are also many risks. Such as a miscarriage because amniotic fluid or tissue from around the fetus is needed for the test. The test results only come back if your child is more likely than not to have a disease, the percentage could still be small, but a parent may panick and terminate the preganancy. The child could have been perfectly healthy, but the test showed traces of a disease in their gene pool. Screenings can also show if a baby has a certain eye or hair color. The screening can cost thousands of dollars, to not even receive a result. When talking about genetic screening being either good or bad, it all comes down to your morals and values. Do you think its okay that people will get these screenings done so they can terminate a child who isn't good enough? Who doesnt have the blue eyes they want? Or do you think that its good because a family with a long history of genetic diseases can finally end the line? So, really, it all comes down to you morals, and how much you value human life.

Just to clear it up, Im not an anti-abortion, 'no genetic screening' person. I believe that it should be met in the middle in which parents can look at possible diseases, but only after the time that it is too late to have an abortion. It just sounds wrong, terminating a preganancy because it isn't good enough. But knowing the chances of disease could help the parents prepare for later on in life when they MIGHT have to deal with it.

Well it depends. Ethically, a lot of issues are raised when talking about Genetic Test. The ethical principle of Autonomy seems to at the center of the discussion. Autonomy is the ethical principle of a patient having the right to choose a course of action based upon information given. Direct-to-consumer access of genetic tests undermines autonomy because of two problems. Without the help of a physician the consumer is left to interpret the result for him or herself. This can lead to drastic misinterpretation and decisions based upon ignorance. A decision based upon ignorance and misinterpretation is not autonomous. A decision is autonomous only when the patient makes a decision based upon full information. Without the help of a physician, consumers are left to themselves to interpret the information from a genetic test. Furthermore, because DTC (direct-to-consumer) genetic tests are legally considered recreational, companies are not forced to provide full disclosure of the psychological implications of their test. Legally, DTC Genetic Tests don't even have to be accurate. DTC Genetic Tests are the legal equivalent of seeing a psychic. A genetic test within itself is perfectly ethical. According to the ethical methodology of principlism championed by Tom Beauchamp, genetic testing is perfectly autonomous. Only in the context of DTC are genetic test considered to be ethically questionable. Direct-to-consumer genetic tests should no longer be considered recreational. It clearly has profound medical implications and should be treated as such. If DTC genetic tests are considered medical, companies will be forced to give consumers full disclosure of their product and will be held liable if they do not. This Tort Liability will protect consumers and their right to Autonomy. If liable, companies offering genetic tests will also self regulate and you better believe they will all become 100% accurate.
