There are many different ways of defining or thinking about God. Certainly, many people believe that God is the spirit of love.
In The Bible, it says he is the avenger of blood. And although he had much love for Israel, he got angry at them a lot of times. Such as when Moses went up to the mountain for so long that the Israelites had Aaron make them the calf. And also when they complained about the food, and not being able to have meat and things. And when they were too afraid of the promised land's inhabitants and didn't trust God.
But all the times he saved them from their captors shows how much he loved them, and him dieing for them shows it even better.
So, I guess you could probably say he is the spirit of love, as well as other things.
