411 on a land line is NOT free. I'm not certain of exact cost but I approximate 1.99 per listing. 411.com, however, is the same database and is FREE.

If you call the automated service 1-800-FREE-411 that is indeed free. But because it is automated it can be difficult to use. Any background noise can be picked up and it might take a while to get an answer.
