Best Answer

* Yes. * It is mostly the thought and maybe the fattiness of haggis that make it difficult for some to stomach. The herbs and other ingredients added to the animal innards provide a taste similar to many other dishes considered acceptable.

A well cooked haggis make no sounds although live haggis make a low drone (like a bagpipe) which is thought by some to be quite melodious. In both cases a haggis does not sound disgusting. As far as the taste and texture of a haggis it is similar in many regards to turkey stuffing with liver. The choice of spices is similar and the protein source is various internal organs for both dishes. The outer covering is usually used to hold the haggis together and not eaten.

It is brought to the table, hot and steaming ("warm reeking, rich" in Robert Burn's words).

For the ecologically sensitive the haggis is a triumph of sustainable food management. It used cheap and healthy materials (oatmeal, umbles, salt and pepper) to create a main course or side dish.

Aesthetically is is no more displeasing than a sausage .

Cultural it is source of musical and poetic inspiration.
